Birds as Metaphors for Intentional Living
As Earth Medicine Apparel grows, so does our story. Our first collection honored the Amazon rainforest with visual prayers: the sacred Kambô medicine frog, the plant teacher Toé, a great Kichwa healer, and the scarlet macaw.
Now, new Earth medicines are calling from closer to home, from the rivers, forests, mountains, deserts, and plains surrounding the Rocky Mountains.
There is a rich abundance of medicine found in these lands where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains. I've been exploring them since I was a baby, drawn to the natural world with a fascination that never faded. Birds have always captured my attention, from childhood nature documentaries to the real encounters I have today with the wild kin that share our territory.

The Language of Birds
Birds immediately capture my attention when I see them. They are masters of presence, of intention, of knowing their role within their ecosystem. Each species embodies different teachings: the Kingfisher's precision and clarity in murky waters; the Magpie's intelligence and communal bonds; the hawk's keen vision and grace in the hunt; the raven's wisdom and adaptability.
In many Indigenous traditions (from the Kichwa peoples of the Amazon to the Arapaho, Ute, and Cheyenne Nations whose ancestral lands surround us here on the Front Range birds have always been seen as messengers, teachers, and spiritual guides. They remind us how to move through life with intention, how to navigate both the visible and invisible worlds.
Mountains and Sacred Geography
I was born in the Wasatch Range of the Rockies, and my father took me exploring across the Four Corners region—New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Utah. Standing before Newspaper Rock and the ancient dwellings of Mesa Verde, I felt a connection deeper than the pioneer narratives we learned in school. These were sacred places, where people had lived in a deep relationship with the land for centuries.
This sense of place, of rootedness in the land itself, shapes everything we do at Earth Medicine Apparel Co. Our Mountain Messengers Collection is a way of honoring that relationship—of bringing the teachings of local birds and plants into wearable, everyday medicine.
Wearable Wisdom
When you wear one of our sacred streetwear pieces, you're wearing a conversation between you and the land. You're aligning yourself with the teachings of that bird, that plant, that ecosystem. The Kingfisher reminds you to move with clarity. The Magpie calls you to community and clever adaptation.

Each design is hand-screenprinted on USA-made organic cotton using water-based inks. This commitment to sustainable streetwear production reflects our deepest values: honoring the land, supporting ethical manufacturing, and creating apparel that carries meaning forward into the world.
